How to Achieve the Outcomes you Desire with Intentional Training…

Three Focus Areas to Apply Intentional Training Today

What is intentional training? It is calculated, purposeful, deliberate teaching. You may want to better understand how to achieve this, or why this strategy is even important. Leaders across all industries put a large focus on pushing through all of the important material when training their team members. And rightfully so. It is important that your team has as much knowledge and understanding of any given topic as possible. However, in my experience, what is more important is how we deliver that material to our team.  In this article I will explain how I have found the most success in delivering training, and the three focus areas you can apply intentional training today.

The most effective approach to training is to be intentional. How do you achieve this? There are endless training styles , as well as endless ways of learning and understanding. Taking the time to find out how to most effectively communicate, and teach each team member, is imperative to the achievement of the outcomes we desire. And you can start today. Taking any step in the direction of being intentional and planning your training is a big step. The three main areas I have found to be most important when delivering intentional training are 1) A clear understanding of the desired outcomes. 2) The availability of necessary resources to successfully achieve the desired outcomes. 3) Consistent and clear communication amongst all team members and leaders when working together. Let’s dive a little deeper into how you can apply intentional training in these three focus areas today.

A clear understanding of the desired outcomes, including what tasks need to be completed, and who will be responsible for these tasks, will ensure there is no confusion from the start. Taking the time to deliver this information in the most effective way for each individual team member is crucial, and involves time and planning as a leader. This will look different for every individual, and leader as our styles of learning and leadership vary. Remember to ensure you deliver a clear understanding of the desired outcome, by taking the time to understand how your team members learn best, and delivering clear expectations in that way.

The availability of necessary resources will increase your team’s ability to successfully achieve the desired outcomes. This is important, and how do we achieve this? By intentionally preparing, and making accessible, the resources that will support your team members in achieving the desired outcomes.  The key part to remember here is that this action needs to be taken before anyone is expected to move forward on a project or task, and that they have expressed to you that they fully understand the resources they have available to them, to provide their best work. This will encourage team members, and give them the reassurance they need to provide value to you and the entire team.

The final focus area I challenge you to apply intentional training to, starting today, is providing consistent and clear communication amongst all team members and leaders when working together. Everything we do, whether it be in our professional or personal life, is dependent upon communication. Nothing would be possible without conversation. So why is it that many people dismiss the importance of what is the very essence of who we are as humans, and how we establish success and growth in our personal and professional lives? That is a question I can not answer. I do know that if we give this area of our life more attention, and apply intentional training by planning out our conversations while being consistent and clear about what we desire, the outcomes will be achieved in ways we could have only imagined.

Conclusion

What will you take away from this? I am hopeful that you will apply intentional training today, starting in the three focus areas that provide the most impact. If you do this starting today, and continue with consistency and intentionality, I am confident you will see success amongst your team and achievement in the results you desire.

Until next time…
